The Schaeffer Center
Those of you visiting twinspires.org should know that Evangelical Lutheran Church is a community of faith dedicated to helping people with the love of God. We do that in many ways, and one is by providing good space for gathering. When people come together in love, the Holy Spirit can do amazing things and lives change. We are currently nearing completion of a total renovation of one of our historic buildings on our historic campus in Frederick. That building is called the Schaeffer Center. It was designed by a well-known architecht of the late 1800's named Dempwolf and constructed to house the church's Sunday School.
Since its completion in 1890, the building has been the place where many generations of Christians have learned about salvation in Jesus Christ. It has also become the home of the Wee Folk School (our congregation's preschool) and been a gathering place for AA, NA, Boy Scouts, Daisy Scouts, liturgical dance, and even self-defense classes (just to name a few).
The Schaeffer Center is a workhorse as far as buildings go, and recognizing that this last year, the people of Evangelical voted to renovate it to 21st century standards. Essentially, we now have a state-of-the-art building in historic "skin."
On September 16th at noon we will gather in our church gardens to rededicate the building to God's grace. We'll celebrate the generous givers and many workers who made it happen. We'll remember past generations who were blessed within its walls, and, of course, look ahead to the many who will be blessed in the future.
If you're close to ELC Frederick or Urbana, we have a place in Sunday School for you and/or your children. Call the office for more information. If you're close by on the 16th, come to the rededication!
And remember...if you're reading these words, you are precious in the eyes of God and He loves you!
